Archeological Site Preservation

Part of human history will be preserved by Calmit, the Votorantim Cimentos Industrial Lime Unit at Matozinhos (MG).

The plant is located close to the Cerca Grande Archeological Site, one of Brazil’s five– the only one of Minas Gerais – set aside by the Federal Government, by means of the Historical and Artistic Heritage Federal Institute (Iphan).

The preservation project has already been approved and awaits the official outline of the area.

Also, as part of the project, is the publishing of a book on Matozinhos archeological heritage
and the carrying out of environmental education courses for students. The book is being completed and practically all the city’s student community has been trained.

Support Center
The project expects to build a visitor support center, with architecture integrated into the local environment, and assembling a stage showing the prehistoric gestures.

A series of activities are to be carried out, such as:

Controlled and supervised visits
Protection barriers to the architectural objects
Complete site fencing
Warning and information signage
Pictorial panels protection
